Biography

Micheal Angelo Muñoz is a clarinetist and teacher currently based out of Loving, New Mexico. Originally from New Mexico, Mr. Muñoz is avid teacher of clarinet to students of all ages and ability levels. His students have reached great success in both New Mexico and Tennessee. He has had students named to All State bands in both states. Some of his former students went on to gain scholarships to assist with their collegiate careers.


During his collegiate career, Mr. Muñoz has been fortunate to perform with several intercollegiate bands under the direction of many prominent wind conductors. He was a member of the New Mexico Intercollegiate Band in 2009, 2010, and 2011. He performed with the Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma National Intercollegiate Band in 2011 and 2013. He performed with the College Band Directors National Association Small College Intercollegiate Band in 2013. The conductors of those ensembles were, Gary Green, James Keene, Robert Ponto, Craig Kirchoff and Anthony Maiello.


Mr. Muñoz is a proponent of chamber music and has performed with ensembles of various instrumentation. Most recently, he performed as a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players at the University of Memphis, where he focused on the performance of new music. Prior to relocating from New Mexico, he was a member of the Zia Winds, a woodwind quintet, and the Zia Trio, a woodwind trio. While at the University of New Mexico, he served as the bass clarinetist with the graduate clarinet quartet.


Mr. Muñoz is currently working on his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in clarinet performance at the University of Memphis. He received a Bachelor of Music Education, with an instrumental emphasis, and a Bachelor of Music-Performance from Eastern New Mexico University, and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at the University of New Mexico. His primary teachers include Tamara Raatz, Jennifer Laubenthal, Keith Lemmons, and Robyn Jones.
